Very-high-viscosity-index lubricants can require a difficult balance between viscosity index improvement, low-temperature fluidity, and polymer shear stability. Low-temperature polyolefins (LT-POs) provide another approach, combining strong viscosity index improvement and excellent low-temperature performance with greater permanent shear stability than many conventional high-VI polymer systems.
FUNCTIONAL V-760 Series LT-POs are particularly useful for producing very-high-VI (VHVI) hydraulic fluids with excellent low-temperature fluidity, including formulations based on paraffinic base oils. Functional Products manufactures several standard products, with custom grades available for specialized requirements.
LT-PO chemistry is not appropriate for every application and is generally not recommended for high-temperature or heavily loaded applications such as certain gear oils and EP lubricants.
