Functional Products Inc. was founded in 1985 in Northeast Ohio with a simple mission: to solve lubrication challenges with innovative chemistry while delivering hands-on support for every customer, big and small. We specialize in high viscosity polymer-based additives like tackifiers and viscosity modifiers. Those are further supported by specialty, custom-tailored additives and packages designed to meet the evolving needs of lubrication, sustainability, and industry standards.

- 1985 – Founded in Cleveland, OH
Founded by tribologists to provide custom polymer solutions and additive chemistries under the FUNCTIONAL brand for lubrication formulators looking to provide improved performance to their customers. - 1990s – Building the Foundation
Introduced a broad portfolio of viscosity modifiers, tackifiers, and specialty additives designed for performance and ease of use. Operations were relocated to the current site in Macedonia, Ohio in 1998. - 2000s – Expanding Reach
We began serving customers not just in the U.S., but worldwide—supporting global blenders, OEMs, and niche formulators with consistent supply and technical expertise. - 2010s – Innovation & Recognition
Expanded into bio-based and environmentally acceptable lubricants. Functional Products’ scientists contributed award-winning papers and presentations in tribology and grease technology. Functional Products Inc. acquires the PARATAC tackifier brand in 2017 and expanded its headquarters in 2019. - 2020s – Fast Response to Changing Times
